One of the greatest mentors in my life was my Father-in-Law. Not only was he my Father-in-Law he was also one of the owners at the organization I was employed at for over 20 years. I never reported directly to him on the organization chart, but I was able to collaborate very closely with him during much of my tenure. There were many days he would come into my office, and we would work through a personnel situation, customer complaint, revenue idea, and so many other issues related to our business.
Admittedly though, my favorite issues or topics were always those that involved people. He and I shared a bond when it came to talking about people. It was our favorite topic. It seemed as though every single conversation, regardless of how much people were not part of the topic, would result in deep discussion of how people were affected.
Over these 20-plus years of talking about business issues (revolving around people) he had a saying that stuck with me as much as any saying I have ever heard.
He always said, “you gotta get your mind right…”
There are so many truths to that saying. If you attempt to take on any initiative or accomplish a goal that is set for you, or the organization and you are not ready to do what is necessary or appropriate the correct capital or allocate the right amount of time it will not work. To put this saying into practice each and every day is critical.
A common reason for failure is due to a lack of actually thinking about what is about to happen, or what the goal is, or what success looks like. As Think About It Advisory Group was coming into existence this concept of getting your mind right is central to what we do and how we advise. In order to get your mind right it is imperative to think about it.
Think about it.
